Hey!
A quick backstory to this: There’s this show going on in Mexico this weekend called Festo Comic. One of the highlights of the whole thing is that C.B. Cebulski (from Marvel Comics) is coming to do portfolio reviews. They handed out a script for everyone interested in getting a review, could do those pages, submit them and the people organizing this would select a group of “participants” to then get the interview/review with Cebulski.
Anyway, I didn’t get selected (if it was for lack of ability, I accept that, if it was because it’s cartoony, I think it’s a big mistake). And since there’s no risk now (I think) I wanted to show them publicly. I had a lot of fun with them. And thanks to the guys who I showed them to before hand for the feedback and for saying “this would get me to buy superhero comics again“. Reaffirms my idea that there IS a market for these kind of comics IN the superhero genre.

In any case, I can still use these for the future. And as well, this motivated me more to work on that Great Lakes Avangers proposal.
If you wanna check out other humor books from Marvel, check out Dark Reign: M.O.D.O.K. by Ryan Dunlavy, the collection of Strange Tales II by various independent artists, and my favorite, Mini Marvels by Chris Giarrusso.

Haha! Would love to read an Uncanny X-Force or Great Lake Avengers comic drawn by you. Those’d be interesting. And Mini Marvels is one of my absolute favourites!
Iron Man: “I’m not egotistical! I just wanted to show you this stuff I made to prove just how awesome I am!”
Thanks, man! I really hope in another chance I get in a future Comic Con in the US I can actually get to talk to an editor there (or even DC, Id’ love to do Plastic Man for them).
And yeah, Mini Marvels is absolutely fantastic, I love the amazing humor Giarrusso uses in his stories.
That’d be sweet. And don’t forget your good pal Frobman~.
And speaking of which, Strange Tales II is made available digitally on the Marvel Website. IT’S MAGIC!
Won’t forget him, be sure 😉
Oh, man, that’s sweet! I gotta get my digital hands on that.
hey i think you are right, there is a market for comics like this i just dont think that UXF is the comic to be done that way. either way great work it looks really good, i can see a deadpool comic being done this way being lots of fun
Oh, absolutely, each series deserves an according style. I used my regular style so, in the case I got the interview with C. B. Cebulski, I could give him a perfect idea what kind of work I could do and find a fitting book for it.
And thank you very much! Yeah, some comedy oriented book might be nice to draw in a silly way.
I think they look pretty awesome, and if I were you I would send them to Marvel regardless they were for the Mexican potofolio review or not. I mean, look at Bartra! He did wonders in the What If! comics, who says superhero comics should always be “by the anatomically correct” book? I say go crazy and give it a shot, submit them anyway
Thank you very much, Gaby!
I will, I can still use these pages for a portfolio review in San Diego or any other con I’m attending next year, and yeah, just going ahead and submit them directly. And start on my proposal for GLA so if they ask, I can have something finished to show them. 😀
How did they not select you? This is fantastic!
I’d send them still! There’s so much potential with your style!
Thank you very much!
I dunno what criteria they used to select the people that got the “call back” for this.
And yeah! I’m still sending them later on, and I can use them for future cons where Marvel is doing portfolio reviews, so I’m not worried, just gonna take longer.
